Luanda is an incredible city.

Incredibly expensive. Incredibly dirty. Incredibly unpredictable. But also incredibly fascinating. Always good for a surprise and full of possibilities.

Where else would you pay $ 20 for a pizza? Or better, $ 3,000 rent per month for a simple apartment and that a year in advance? Where else would you discover that you need both, electricity and water at the same time, to turn on a washing machine? Where else can it take you ten minutes but just as well three hours to get from A to B? Sometimes four - because it rained, the garbage truck is just doing its job, or a road was blocked cause the owner of the country wanted to go for a drink. Where else it happens to a large food products company that its goods get stocked in the port for so long that the eat-by date already expired when containers get cleared? But Luanda changes fast. There are not many places in this world where you can see around 20 cranes working at the same time, Luanda is one of them. Also, the average stay of imported goods at the port was reduced in 2010 from several to less than a month. A year ago, one could expect to stand an hour in line to fill up his pickup. Today there are so many new stations that queues are rare.

Luanda teaches patience and not to lose one’s temper. It’s a major challenge, take it!
